Art Night Marathon

July 15, 2021 8:00 pm

To celebrate our partnership with Art Night we screened their online programme across one evening on Thursday 15th July.

The 2021 festival was titled Nothing Compares 2U after the song written by Prince and most famously performed by Sinead O’ Connor. The title acts as a frame for the festival, it pulls at a thread of defiance and both personal and collective self determination which runs throughout the programme.

The broadcast began with a body crashing through a bus shelter window and ended with the hypnotic syntax of the tala rhythmic system.

The marathon was broadcast in partnership with Somerset House and was hosted on our artnight.london homepage and also on the websites of the partners – Art Review, ATLAS Arts, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Glasgow Women’s Library, Grand Union, Near Now, Peak, Wysing Arts Centre, The Tetley and 180 Studios. All films are open/closed captioned with thanks to the artists, Collective Text and Sara Morrison with support from Wysing Arts Centre and the Art Night team.

Art Night would like to thank all the artists, project partners and co-commissioners on our 2021 programme – ATLAS Arts, CCA Derry, Compton Verney, FACT, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Iniva, g39, Glasgow Women’s Library, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Goethe-Institut, Grand Union, Near Now, Women’s Art Collection, Peak, Somerset House, The Tetley, Towner, Two Temple Place, Wysing Arts Centre and 180 Studios.
