Rosa Lee

The geometrical ordering of Rosa Lee’s paintings underpins a sensual, painterly surface of oil paint thickened with wax, and applied layer on layer in small skeins of colour. The layering in her work is achieved by spraying paint through paper doilies. She says these works are “about a desire to make paintings of unnecessary detail”. Born in Hong Kong, Rosa Lee lived and worked in London. She was a prizewinner in the 1989 John Moores.
