The Murray Edwards College crest depicts a single dolphin. When the College acquired its charter in 1972, this symbol was chosen by the College Fellows, allegedly because the dolphin is an intelligent animal that swims in schools. Traditionally it symbolises resurrection and salvation. Dr Rosemary Lloyd presented this work to the college when she left to take up a professorship in Indiana.
