Mediha Ting

Mediha Ting is an artist who is known for her multilayered acrylic paintings.

Ting grew up in Hong Kong and studied Fine Art in California and London before returning to Hong Kong in 2013.

In her paintings, Ting combines an exploration of colour with an engagement with contemporary global politics. ‘Orange Land Green Void with Leon Sign’ is part of the artist’s 2010 series, Icon Luminous, which was inspired by the artist’s sense of estrangement on her trips back to Hong Kong while living abroad because of the continual emergence of new technologies and slangs.

The brightly-coloured painting merges abstract shapes with handwritten and digital text. It references the evolution of Hong Kong’s urban landscape with its neon sign, a feature which is gradually disappearing from the city.
