Kye Sook Park
Kye Sook Park was born and brought up in South Korea, graduating from Dongguk University in Seoul with degrees in Fine Art and Education, before settling in Cambridge. Her works, predominantly landscapes, are in the medium of Korean painting, using India ink and watercolours on rice paper.
‘New Friend’ (2007) depicts a winding road on what appears to be a cold, winter’s day. Through very few marks on the page, the artist manages to express deep emotions, of melancholy and loneliness. The title – ‘New Friend’ – humanises the landscape, making it into a benevolent character itself.
