Joanna Moss
In 1990, Moss won the ‘British Airways New Artist’ award, which enabled her to travel the world and make art. She went to New York, Sydney and Tokyo, creating many works inspired by their fast-paced financial districts. She developed an interest in chrystallising fleeting moments, such as the transient events and interactions on the floors of the stock exchange.
In ‘Own Copy’, Moss captures a single moment during a birth scan. By turning the small black-and-white snapshot into a large brightly-coloured painting, she draws our attention to this simultaneously mundane and life-changing moment.
