Fiona Watson

Fiona (Crawford) Watson studied Biological Sciences at Leicester University and worked for many years as a medical editor before becoming a full-time artist. She studied printmaking at the Glasgow Print Studio and now exhibits widely in several countries. Inspirations from nature echo throughout her work. In a chemistry of vision, memory and observation, the imagery becomes a sort of visual poem, a simplification to draw the eye to an essence.

This etching is one of a series attempting to integrate digital and traditional printmaking. Fiona was aiming to have the feel of a cluttered natural history museum, rather than a slick digital image. Scanned objects, old text books, etc were manipulated in Photoshop, printed onto thin Japanese paper and used as collage elements (chine colle) to print with a steel plate ecthed by traditional methods.
