Charlotte Hodes
Charlotte Hodes is an artist whose practice includes painting, collage, ceramics & glass. Recent solo exhibitions include Silhouettes and Filigree at the Marlborough Gallery in December 2009 & Drawing Skirts at the Baring Wing & University Gallery, University of Northumbria in 2008.
Hodes, who trained as a painter but now also practices as a sculptor, continually blurs the boundaries between fine and decorative arts, mixing craft processes with fine art motifs. The female form is a recurring figure in her works. Often depicted in silhouette, her vibrantly-coloured women refuse to be purely decorative. Striking powerful poses, they emerge from their backgrounds and take ownership of their environments.
