Ann Rado
Rainer Maria Rilke’s (1875-1926) lyrical, mystical verse has been a source of inspiration for many artists. These works come from a series of illustrations that Ann Rado has made of her husband Erwin Rado’s translations of many of the poems. She has written: “Finding an image for the text is another form of translation; yet another step removed. On many occasions, a reading would yield me nothing; then, upon revisiting it, the poem would suggest images for itself as it were, as if they had been waiting in a time of gestation to make themselves available.”
